국문 초록

이 연구는 통합위협이론을 이론적 틀로 삼아 제주도 관광분야에서 지역주민의 시각에서 바라본 이주사업가 와의 갈등욘인을 탐색하고자 2023년 10월 10일부터 15일까지(사전연구), 2023년 12월 1일부터 30일(본연구)까지 제주지역 선주민들 대상으로 심층인터뷰를 진행하여 선주민들의 부정적인 태도와 위협에 대한 인식을 면밀히 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 주제분석 방법을 사용하여 분석을 시행하였으며 이를 통해 선주민들이 겪은 부정적 경험에 의한 위협의 주제범주를 도출하고 통합위협이론의 핵심 개념들과 연결하여 심층인터뷰 자료를 분석하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 사회경제적 혼란과 자원취약성으로 인해 이주민 사업가들의 활동이 경제적 불안과 자원 경쟁을 초래하였으며 둘째, 문화적 결속과 가치정렬의 해체로 인해 선주민들은 이주민 사업가들에 의해 문화적 정체성이 침식되고, 사회적 가치충돌과 윤리적 불일치를 경험하고 있었다. 셋째, 선주민들은 집단 간 부정적 상호작용으로 인하여 발생한 불안에 의하여 사회적 통합이 실패할 것을 우려하는 것으로 확인되었다. 이 연구는 제주도 선주민과 이주민 간 갈등을 통합위협이론을 통해 분석하여, 상호작용과 갈등의 원인을 심층적으로 이해하는 데 기여하였다. 또한 이주민 사업가들의 관광산업 진입이 경제적 불안과 자원 고갈을 초래할 수 있음을 강조하며, 지역 경제 안정성과 자원 소비 관리의 필요성을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study, conducted from December 1 to 30, 2023, aimed to thoroughly explore the negative perceptions and feelings of threat held by local residents toward migrant entrepreneurs. Using Integrated Threat Theory as a framework, this study examined the causes of conflict between native residents and migrant entrepreneurs in Jeju Island's tourism sector. To investigate native residents' negative attitudes and perceptions regarding the threats caused by migrant entrepreneurs, in-depth interviews were conducted in two phases: a preliminary study (October 10-15, 2023) and a main study (December 1-30, 2023). The interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis, where theme categories of the threats were identified and associated with key concepts of Integrated Threat Theory. The analysis revealed three key findings. First, migrant entrepreneurs' activities led to economic instability and resource competition due to socioeconomic disruption and resource vulnerability. Second, native residents experienced erosion of cultural identity, social value conflicts, and ethical disagreements with migrant entrepreneurs due to the breakdown of cultural cohesion and value alignment. Third, native residents expressed concern about the potential failure of social integration due to anxiety arising from negative interactions between the groups. By applying Integrated Threat Theory, this study provided new insights into the complex interactions and conflicts between Jeju Island's native residents and migrant entrepreneurs. The findings highlight how migrant entrepreneurs' participation in the tourism industry affects regional economic stability and resource availability, suggesting the need for more effective economic and resource management strategies.
