국문 초록

Exactly 120 years ago, Japan and Russia clashed in armed conflict on the Korean Peninsula and China. The world’s eyes were on the Russo- Japanese War, which was ultimately won by Japan. Along the way, the Japanese Imperial Army fought the battles of Lüshun, Laoyang, and Fengtian against the Russian Imperial Army, and most histories declare the Japanese Army the victor. However, the Battle of Fengtian deserved a close look, so we turned to maps and historical accounts to determine the truth of the day. We will examine whether the Japanese and Russian armies achieved their purpose of operations and end-states at the tactical and strategic levels, and who prevailed in terms of Clausewitz’s three factors of warfare: space, time, and force. We will also examine the implications of the battle in terms of international politics. This study of the last and largest ground battle of the Russo-Japanese War will contribute to current and future research on the Korean Peninsula.

영문 초록

正確に120年前に朝鮮半島と中国大陸で日本とロシアの武力衝突があった。全世界がその日露戦争に注目した。最終的に戦争の勝者は日本だった。その過程で日本陸軍はロシア陸軍を相手に旅順、遼陽、奉天戦闘を繰り広げて、ほとんどの歴史書は日本陸軍を勝者として記録している。しかし奉天戦闘だけはもう一度細かく研究する必要性があると考えて、当時の状況を描いた地図と歴史書を根幹にして、その日の真実を確認した。戦術的、戦略的次元で日本陸軍とロシア陸軍は各自が追求していた作戦目的と最終状態を達成したのか、クラウゼビッツが主張する戦闘の3要素、時間、空間、戦闘力の側面で誰がより優勢だったかを調べる。また、国際政治的側面からこの戦闘が内包している含意を調べてみる。日露戦争で最後の、最大規模の地上戦闘に関するこの研究から、現在と未来の朝鮮半島情勢研究に道をつける貢献しようとする。
