국내 학술지에 게재된 초등 STEAM 교육에 대한 연구 동향

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 초등 융합인재교육(STEAM)이 본격 시작된 2012년부터 2023년까지 등재 및 등재후보 학술지에 게재된 논문에 대한 연구의 동향을 분석하는 것이며, 이 연구목적을 달성하기 위한 연구내용을 세 가지로 설정하였다. 또한, 초등 STEAM 교육 및 융합인재교육의 키워드로 한국교육학술정보원 데이터베이스에 검색하여 데이터를 수집하고 분석하였으며, 최종 분석대상 논문은 251편이었다. 분석 기준으로는 논문 특성(게재 연도, 게재 학술지, 연구목적), 연구대상 및 요소, 연구방법(자료수집 방법, 연구 형태) 이었다. 연구방법으로는 문헌 연구와 Excel 프로그램 활용 빈도분석 및 교차분석을 실시하였으며, 구체적인 연구결론 및 제언은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 2012년~2023년 게재된 초등 STEAM 교육 관련 251편 학술지 논문의 특성별 연구 동향 분석 결과, 게재 연도별로는 2015년 38편, 2014년 35편, 2016년 33편, 2013년 32편 등의 순이었다. 또한, 게재 학술지별로는 학습자중심교과교육연구 학술지 22편, 과학교육연구지 15편, 한국과학교육학회지 13편, 한국실과교육학회지 12편 등의 순이었으며, 연구목적별로는 영향 및 효과 56편, 개발 및 적용 51편, 개발 37편 등의 순이었다. 둘째, 연구대상별로는 학생 105편, 문헌 99편, 교사 39편 등의 순이었으며, STEAM 요소별로는 STEAM 107편, S(과학) 44편, A(예술) 39편 등의 순이었다. 셋째, 자료수집 방법으로는 설문지 133편, 문헌자료 99편, 질문지 12편 등의 순이었으며, 연구 형태로는 양적 연구, 문헌 연구, 질적 연구, 통합 연구의 순이었다. 이상과 같은 연구 결론을 바탕으로 향후 연구에서는 연구 주제 및 목적, STEAM 요소, 자료수집 방법 및 연구 형태 측면에서 분석 기준을 보다 다양화한 연구 수행이 요구된다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes research trends in papers on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education published in indexed and candidate journals from 2012 (when STEAM education began in earnest) to 2023. To this end, three specific research objectives were set. The study analyzed 251 papers retrieved from the Korean Educational Research Information Service (KERIS) using the keywords “elementary STEAM” and “integrated talent education.” The analysis focused on paper characteristics (publication year, journal, research purpose), research subjects and elements, and research methods (data collection method, research type). Employing a literature review and frequency analysis using Excel, the study identified key research trends and offered recommendations. By publication year, 2015 saw the most publications (38 papers), followed by 2014 (35), 2016 (33), and 2013 (32). By journal, Learner-Centered Curriculum Education published the most papers (22 papers), followed by the Journal of Science Education (15 papers), Korean Journal of Science Education (13 papers), and Korean Journal of Practical Arts Education (12 papers). Regarding research purposes, studies on impact and effectiveness were the most common (56 papers), followed by those on development and application (51 papers), development (37 papers), and analysis and evaluation (25 papers). With respect to research subjects, most studies focused on students (105 papers), followed by literature-based studies (99 papers) and teachers (39 papers). For STEAM elements, studies covering the STEAM framework were the most common (107 papers), followed by science (S) (44) and art (A) (39). In terms of data collection methods, surveys were the most common (133 papers), followed by literature reviews (99 papers) and questionnaires (12 papers). Research types, in order of frequency, included quantitative, literature-based, qualitative, and integrative studies. These findings suggest the need for future research to diversify the analysis criteria in terms of research topics, purposes, STEAM elements, data collection methods, and research types to broaden the scope of STEAM education research.
