소셜 커뮤니케이션과 삶의 만족도의 정주의식 예측: 수도권과 비수도권 비교

국문 초록

수도권 과밀화와 지방소멸 현상은 한국 사회의 갈등, 성장, 지속과 관련된 영역들을 관통하는 연쇄적문제의 중심이다. 본 연구는 해당 현상의 원인 탐구에 있어서, 그동안 주목받지 못한 미디어·커뮤니케이션관점으로 거주자의 소셜 커뮤니케이션 특성, 즉 다양한 사람과의 교류 그리고 SNS 상향비교 정도가 삶의만족도를 매개해 정주의식을 예측하는지 살펴보았다. 특히 수도권과 비수도권에 따라 해당 예측 모형에 차이가 있는지 <2023 한국인 행복조사> 전국 데이터(n=12,552)를 활용하여 통계적으로 검정했다. 분석 결과, 소셜 커뮤니케이션 두 요소는 삶의 만족도가 통제되었을 때 모두 정주의식을 부(-)적으로 직접 예측했고, SNS 상향비교는 비수도권에서, 사회교류 다양성은 수도권에서 정주의식과의 부(-)적 관계가 좀 더 강하게 나타났다. 반면, 두 요소 각각은 향상된 삶의 만족도를 통할 경우 정주의식을 정(+)적으로 예측했으며, 이러한 간접효과는 특히 비수도권에서 두드러지게 나타났다. 분석 결과를 바탕으로, 비수도권에서의 삶의 만족도와 정주의식을 높일 수 있는 정책적 방향을 논의했다.

영문 초록

The concentration of the population in Seoul metropolitan areas and the depopulation of non-Seoul metropolitan areas are central issues affecting social conflict, economic growth, and sustainability in South Korea. This study constructed a predictive theoretical model of settlement consciousness from a media/communication perspective, reflecting residents' social communication characteristics, such as engagement in diverse social groups/organizations and SNS upward social comparison. Using a nationally representative sample(n=12,552) from the 2023 ‘Korean Happiness Survey’ data, we statistically examined how life satisfaction and settlement consciousness in Seoul metropolitan and non-Seoul metropolitan areas are predicted differentially as a function of the two social communication characteristics. The analysis revealed engagement in diverse social groups/organizations and SNS upward social comparison negatively predicted settlement consciousness in Seoul and non-Seoul metropolitan areas, respectively, when life satisfaction was controlled. On the other hand, when mediated through improved life satisfaction, each of the two social communication characteristics positively predicted settlement consciousness, and this indirect effect was particularly pronounced in non-Seoul metropolitan areas compared to Seoul metropolitan areas. Based on these findings, we discussed policy directions to promote life satisfaction and settlement consciousness in non-Seoul metropolitan areas.
