국문 초록

본 연구는 한일 교환학생 프로그램이 학생 개개인의 발달뿐만 아니라 양국 간의 상호 이해와 관계 개선에 미치는 영향을 탐구하였다. 이를 위해 수도권 대규모 사립대학의 한일 교환학생 프로그램에 참여한 학생들을 대상으로 심층 면담을 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 학생들은 교환학생 프로그램을 통해 일본에 대한 부정적인 인식을 극복하고, 일본 학생들과의 문화·역사적 교류를 통해 열린 사고방식과 포용성을 형성하였다. 또한, 교환학생 프로그램이 학생들의 진로 결정 자기효능감, 외국어 능력, 그리고 문화적 역량 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 현지에서의 상호작용을 통해 양국 간의 역사·정치적 이슈를 보다 균형 잡힌 시각으로 이해하게 되었으며, 이는 장기적으로 양국의 신뢰와 협력적 관계 형성에 기여할 수 있음을 시사한다. 더불어 본 연구는 교환학생 프로그램의 효과성을 높이기 위해 학생들의 학문과 개인적 목표를 반영한 차별화된 프로그램 설계의 필요성을 강조하였다.

영문 초록

This study explores the impact of the Korea-Japan exchange student program on the development of individual students as well as the improvement of mutual understanding and relations between the two countries. To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted with students who participated in the Korea-Japan exchange student program at a large private university in the Seoul metropolitan area. The results showed that students overcame their existing negative perceptions of Japan through the exchange program and developed an open-mindedness and inclusiveness through cultural and historical exchanges with Japanese students. The study also found that the exchange program had a positive impact on students' career decision self-efficacy, foreign language proficiency, and cultural competence. In particular, students gained a more balanced understanding of historical and political issues between the two countries through local interactions, suggesting that the program could contribute to the development of trust and cooperative relations between the two countries in the long run. This study also highlights the need for differentiated program design that reflects students' academic and personal goals to enhance the effectiveness of exchange programs.
