국문 초록

미디어아트는 디지털 기술과의 융합으로 예술적 표현 방식을 혁신하고 예술과 관람객과의 관계를 재구성하고 있다. 본 논문은 마셜 매클루언의 미디어 이론을 기반으로 ‘팀랩 보더리스’의 사례 분석을 통해 미디어아트의 확장성을 고찰하였다. 첫째, 미디어아트는 뉴미디어와 디지털 기술의 융합을 통해 다감각적 경험을 선사하며 관람객의 예술적 감각을 확장한다. 둘째, 미디어아트는 상호작용성을 확장하여 기술과 예술의 경계를 허물며, 관람객에게 수동적 수용자에서 능동적 창조의 주체로 몰입하는 새로운 예술적 경험을 가능하게 한다. 셋째, 디지털 기술은 물리적 시공간의 전통적 제약을 초월하여 새로운 시공간적 경험을 선사한다. 넷째, 미디어아트는 경제적 효과와 사회적 변화를 견인하며 산업적 확장성과 사회적 지속 가능성을 수반한다. 팀랩 보더리스는 미디어아트가 인간의 감각과 사고를 변화시키고 경제·사회 구조에 영향을 미치는 확장성을 지니고 있음을 실증적으로 보여주는 대표적인 사례이다.

영문 초록

The convergence of digital technology has revolutionized the artistic expressions of media art and redefined its relationship with viewers. This paper examines the extensions of media art through an analysis of teamLab Borderless, based on Marshall McLuhan's media theory. First, media art offers multisensory experiences and extends the artistic perception of viewers by the convergence of new media and digital technologies. Second, it extends interactivity, transcending the boundaries between technology and art, and enables viewers to transition from passive recipients to active creators, offering immersive and novel artistic experiences. Third, digital technology transcends the traditional constraints of physical time and space, providing unprecedented spatiotemporal experiences. Fourth, media art drives economic effects and societal changes, encompassing industrial extensions and social sustainability. teamLab Borderless serves as a representative example, demonstrating the transformative capacity of media art to change human sense and thought, effect socio-economic structures, and illustrate its extensive potential.
