The Dual Impact of Inward FDI on Growth and Sustainability in Emerging, Developing, and Under-developed Economies: A Systematic Literature Review

국문 초록

The aim of this paper is to systematically review the existing studies that have addressed the pros and cons of inward foreign direct investment (FDI) for the growth and sustainability of emerging, developing, and under-developed (EDU) economies. Based on the literature review, essential future research avenues in this area are proposed. To achieve the objective of this research, influential papers published over the past 24 years are identified, and their primary findings investigated. Subsequently, both citation analysis and bibliometric analysis are conducted. Following that, a keyword analysis is performed to highlight key topics related to FDI and development issues. The literature review reveals the major topical themes that extant studies have addressed and identifies the chronological contributions these studies have made. However, despite their contributions, a significant research gap remains. Moreover, in spite of the increased number of empirical studies exploring the association between FDI and local development, inconsistent findings have become prevalent, leading to a tendency to accept mixed results as the norm. Based on this, the study proposes directions for empirical research that should be prioritized.

영문 초록

본 논문의목적은신흥국, 개발도상국, 저개발국(EDU) 경제의 성장과 지속 가능성을 위한 외국 인 직접투자(Foreign Direct Investment, FDI)의 장단점을 다룬 기존 연구를 체계적으로 검토하는 데 있다. 또한 문헌고찰을바탕으로이분야의필요한향후연구방향역시제안하고자한다. 논 문의 목표를 달성하기위해, 지난 24년 동안 발표된 영향력 있는 논문들을식별하고주요실증결 과를 조사 및소개하였으며, 인용 분석과 서지 분석을 수행하였다. 그 이후, 키워드 분석을 통해 FDI와 이에 관련된 문제들에대한주요주제들을제시하였다. 본논문의문헌검토는기존연구가 다루어 온주요주제들과, 이러한연구들이 기여한 연대기적 기여를성공적으로 밝혀냈다고 사료 된다. 그러나 기존연구의많은 기여에도불구하고여전히다수의연구갭(research gaps)들이 남아 있다. 또한, FDI와 지역 개발 간의 관련성을 다루는 실증분석 시도가 증가해 왔음에도 불구하고, 일관성없는결과가여전히상존하고있다. 이를바탕으로본연구는우선적으로고려되어야할실 증 연구의 방향을 제시하였다.
