Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of combined bimanual massed practice training (BMP) and restorative approach on the hand function and activities of daily living (ADL) performance i n the c lients with i ncomplete cervical SCI i n the occupational therapy c lin ical f ield. Method: Sixteen incomplete cervical SCI clients enrolled. They randomly assigned to combined BMP and restorative approach (Experimental group, n=8) or restorative approach (Control group, n=8). Hand function, and performance of daily living were measured by three outcome measures (first and second for hand function and third for ADL performance): The Chedoke-Arm and Hand Activity Inventory-9 (CAHAI-9), Digital Grip Dynamometer (DGD), Spinal cord independence Measure Version III (SCIM-III). Results: CAHAI-9, both hand DGD, and SCIM-III scores of the experimental group were significantly improved after training (p=.018, .017,.012 and .012). In comparing between experimental group and control group, CAHAI-9, left hand DGD and SCIM-III were significantly different(p=.022, .031 and .005). But right hand DGD was not different. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that combined BMP and restorative approach group shows better improvement in hand function and performance of ADL than the control group.
