Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate whether emotional regulation ability mediates the relationship between parent-child attachment and relational aggression in upper elementary school students who are at a transitional phase from childhood to adolescence. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted on 322 fifth and sixth graders of A-city and U-gun in Gyeongbuk. Results: Emotional regulation ability is a major mediator that reduces relational aggression. In other words, Parent-child attachment is important, but it has been found that high emotional control ability can prevent or reduce children's relational aggression. Therefore, it can be seen that emotional control ability acts as a protective factor for relational aggression. Thus, education and intervention programs that improve emotional regulation ability, should be developed to prevent relational aggression. Conclusions: This study helps in the understanding of the relationship of various sub-factors of parent-child attachment with emotional regulation ability and relational aggression and presents foundational data for developing preventive and therapeutic interventions for relational aggression.
