국문 초록

본 연구는 수학적 모델링 과정에서 학생들이 어떠한 수학적 표현을 생성하는지, 그리고 수학적 표현을 생성하고 수정 및 변형하는과정이 수학적 모델링 과정과 어떻게 관련되는지 분석하는 데 목적을 둔다. 특히 본 연구에서는 Peirce의 기호학적 관점에서 학생들이 수학적 모델링 과정에서 생성한 수학적 표현이 도상, 지표, 상징 가운데 어떠한 특성이 두드러지게 나타나는지, 그리고 이러한특성들이 수학적 모델링과 어떻게 관련되는지 함께 살펴보았다. 연구 결과, 수학적 모델의 구축과 검증 및 수학적 모델의 사용과일반화가 확인되었으며, 이 과정에서 표상체의 도상적 측면과 지표적 측면 가운데 어느 쪽에 먼저 초점을 두는지에 따라서 적절치않은 수학적 모델이 생성될 수 있었고, 이는 학생들의 수학적 모델링에서 주요한 어려움 가운데 하나로 확인되었다. 또한, 학생들이대수식 표현의 상징적인 측면에 초점을 두고 이에 대해 자신들이 앞서 유사한 대수식 표현에 대해 수행한 비교적 관습적인 수학적절차를 실행하는 장면이 확인되었다. 마지막으로, 학생들이 수학적 모델을 사용한 결과 도출된 값을 지표적으로 해석하면서 급격한일반화를 달성하는 장면도 확인되었다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze the process of mathematical modeling, focusing on how students generate mathematical representations and how the generation and modification of these representations relate to the mathematical modeling process. Particularly, this study examines, from Peirce's semiotic perspective, which characteristic among iconic, indexical, or symbolic, are prominently manifested in the mathematical representations generated by students during the modeling process, and how these characteristics are related to mathematical modeling. The results revealed that both the building and verification of mathematical models, as well as their application and generalization, are confirmed. In this process, depending on whether the focus is initially placed on the iconic or indexical aspects of the representation, inappropriate mathematical models can be built, which has been identified as one of the major challenges in students' mathematical modeling. Additionally, it was observed that students often focus on the symbolic aspect of algebraic expressions and apply conventional mathematical procedures they have previously learned in similar contexts. Finally, the study also noted instances where students achieved rapid generalization by analyzing the values derived from the use of mathematical models in an indexical manner.
