국문 초록

본 연구는 왜 10·26사건이 일어났을까? 그리고 10·26사건은 18년의 독재정권을 무너뜨리고 한국의 민주주의를 앞당겼는가에 대한 의문에서 시작되었다. 또한 한국정치사에서 가장 영향력 있고 긍정적으로 평가받은 박정희 대통령이 왜 10·26사건에 직면했는가를 재조명하고자 했다. 이 연구는 박정희의 심리적 요인과 박정희와 김재규 간의 관계 변화뿐만 아니라 김재규의 성격과 태도 변화를 통해 10·26사건을 재해석했다. 결론적으로 육영수 여사가 사망하고 박정희는 심리적 불안감으로 인해 권력에 대한 강한 애착이 생겨났다. 그리고 박정희와 김재규가 정치적사건에 대한 접근과 인식에 있어 차이로 인해 10·26사건이 발생한 것이다. 무엇보다도 10·26사건이 우발적으로 발생했다고 평가되지만, 박정희의 18년 독재정권을 붕괴시킨 것은 분명하다. 하지만 이 사건은 한국의 민주화를 앞당기는데 실패하고, 더욱 강력한 권위주의 체제로 회귀하는 결과를 만들었다.

영문 초록

This study is motivated by the question of why the October 26 Incident occurred and whether it brought down 18 years of dictatorship and ushered in democracy in South Korea. Also, we sought to reexamine why President Park Chung-hee, who was the most influential and positively evaluated in Korean political history, faced the October 26 Incident. This study reinterpreted the October 26 incident through Park Chung-hee's psychological factors and changes in the relationship between Park Chung-hee and Kim Jae-gyu, as well as changes in Kim Jae-gyu's personality and attitude. In conclusion, after the death of First Lady Yuk Young-soo, Park Chung-hee developed a strong attachment to power due to psychological anxiety. And the October 26 incident occurred due to differences in the approach and perception of political events between Park Chung-hee and Kim Jae-gyu. Above all, although the October 26 incident is assessed to have occurred accidentally, it is clear that it collapsed Park Chung- hee's 18-year dictatorship. However, this incident failed to accelerate Korea's democratization and resulted in a return to a stronger authoritarian system.
