국문 초록

본 연구는 새로운 미디어 환경 하에서 변화되는 스크린의 크기에 따라 관객또는 군중에게 유발되는 정동의 흐름을 추적했다. 전통적으로 영화 스크린은 어두운 극장 안에서 거대한 은막에 빛을 투사하는 고정된 장치였다. 그러나 오늘날 스크린은 극장에 고정된 채 이미지를 재현하는 장치에서 벗어나 TV나 컴퓨터 화면의 형태로 각 가정에 보급됐고 이제는 모바일 플랫폼을 통해 이동성을 확보했다. 이렇듯 21세기는 빠른 정보전달의 속도와 궤를 같이하며 마치 생명체처럼 진화하는 스크린의 의미에 대한 재정의가 필요한 시점이다. 환경 변화에 따른 스크린에 대한 이해는 우선 인간과 스크린의 상호작용을 넘어서 궁극적으로 인간과 인간 사이, 더 나아가 개인과 공동체를 연결해 주는 필연적인 매개체라는 점에 주목해야 한다. 또한 스크린이 이미지를 재현하면서, 이로부터 유발되는 정동(affect)과 그 흐름에도 집중할 필요가 있다. 이렇게 스크린과 정동의 관계를 이해하기 위해선 스크린을 마주하는 개인 또는 군중의 불균질한 특성을 확인해야 한다. 따라서 본 연구는 스크린과 신체의 관계 파악 및 사회적 관계망을 통한 변화 지점을 핵심적으로 짚어보려 했다. 더불어 사회적 관계망을 움직이는 동력을 정동이라고 정의할 때, 정동에 관한 두 가지 판본인 조디 딘과 헨리 젠킨스의 연구를 대조 및 적용함으로써 스크린에서 개인으로, 개인에서공동체로 감염되는 정동의 흐름을 규명해보고자 했다. 두 대조는 연구자의 분석이 주관적 독단으로 흐를 소지를 경계하기 위한 방법론이었다. 본 연구에서 나름의 의미를 두는 지점은 촛불집회라는 역사적 사건을 군중과정동 그리고 그 매개 수단인 모바일 스크린을 통해 해석했다는 점이다. 이로써새로운 스크린을 경유하는 군중의 정동을 확인하는 것은 물론, 그 정동에 흐르는정치성도 밝혀낼 수 있었다. 특히 미셀 드 세르토의 ‘발화보행’ 개념을 모바일 스크린으로 확장하여 해석함으로써 동시대에 걸맞은 이해를 도모할 수 있었다. 촛불집회가 내포한 정치적 가능성을 손 안의 작은 지도와 진화한 모바일스크린이라는 키워드로 해석한 지점은 일말의 수확이라 하겠다.

영문 초록

This study tracked the flux of affect induced by the audience or the crowd depending on the size of the screen that changes under new media environments. The traditional film screen is a fixed device that projects light on a huge screen in a dark theater. Today, however, the screen has broken free from a fixed device reproducing images in a theater to take the form of TVs or computer screens and be distributed to each household. Now, it has even acquired portability through the mobile platform. Therefore, the 21st century requires a redefinition of the meaning of screens that evolve like life forms, running alongside rapid information transfer. In the understanding of the screen according to environmental change, it is important to note that it is an inevitable medium that mediates the interaction between human and screen, that between humans, and ultimately connects individual and community. Also, as the screen recreates the image, we should focus on the consequent affect and its flux. In order to understand the relationship between the screen and affect, we must identify the heterogeneity of individuals or the crowd that faces the screen. Therefore, this study sought to understand the relationship between the screen and the human body and focused on the point of change through social network. Moreover, by defining affect as the motive power that moves social network, we tried to identify the flux of affect from the screen to the individual and from the individual to the community by comparing and applying Jodi Dean’s and Henry Jenkins’s versions of affect. The purpose was to be vigilant against the possibility that the researcher’s analysis may become subjective. The point of significance in this study is the interpretation of the historical event of candlelight vigils by the crowd, affect, and medium, which was the mobile screen. As a result, we were able to identify not only the affect of the crowd that passes through the new screen but also the political identity within the affect. Especially, by expanding Michel de Certeau’s concept of ‘pedestrian speech acts’ to the mobile screen in our interpretation, we were able to gain an understanding relevant to the contemporary. The point of interpretation of political possibility contained by the candlelight vigil through a small map in our hands and an evolved mobile screen was a grain of success.
