<버닝>과 <기생충>의 비교 연구

국문 초록

본고는 이창동의 <버닝>과 봉준호의 <기생충>을 비교했다. 두 영화는 스타일도 꽤나 다르고, 스토리도 공통점이 없어 보이지만, 깊이 파고들면 비슷한 점이많다. 본고는 두 영화를 청년, 계급, 가족, 살인 등의 공통의 키워드로 고찰한 뒤, 두 영화가 어떻게 비슷하고 다른지 연구했다. 두 영화의 스토리는 청년이 끌고 간다. 두 영화에서 주인공이라고 할 수 있는청년은 가난하고 불안정한 프레카리아트이다. 이들의 사랑은 실패하고, 결국 큰상처를 안은 채 영화는 끝이 난다. 엄청난 충격을 받거나 상상의 살인을 하기까지 한다. 이들이 이렇게 실패하는 가장 큰 이유는 이들의 계급이 하층민이기 때문이고, 이런 하층민의 토대에는 가족이 있다. 이들의 가난이 문제가 아니라 이들이 속한 가족이 가난하기 때문에 이들은 고통 받는다. 무엇보다 <버닝>은 영화가시작되면 이미 가족이 해체되어 있지만, 가난해도 넉넉하던 <기생충>의 가족도파국을 맞은 후 해체되고 만다. 영화에서 가장 중요한 사건인 파국적인 결말은매우 충격적이다. 둘 다 살인이 일어나는데, <버닝>이 소설 속의 사건으로 설정되어 있어 덜 충격적이지만, <기생충>의 파국은 매우 충격적이다. 특히 계급적시각을 전면화해 놓았기 때문에 더욱 그러하다. 이창동과 봉준호는 한국을 대표하는 감독들이다. 둘은 영화를 만들 때마다 주목을 받았지만 이들의 영화 세계는 꽤나 먼 거리에 있었다. 그러나 계급을 토대로 한 가족 해체를 다룬 <버닝>과 <기생충>에서는 매우 밀접한 거리에 두 감독이 위치해 있음을 알게 해 주었다. 이를 통해 두 감독의 영화 세계를 더 깊이 이해할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This paper compared Lee Chang-dong’s Burning and Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite. The two movies have quite different styles, and seem to have nothing in common in their stories, but I can find some similarities between two movies by going deep into them. After considering the two films as common keywords such as youth, class, family, and murder, this paper studied how the two films were both similar and different. Each story of the two movies unfolds through young man. The young people, who can be said to be a main character in the two movies, are a poor and unstable precariat. They fails in love, and felt deeply wounded. They are shocked or even commit imaginary murder. The biggest reason why they fail like this is that not only they but also their families belong to lower class. They suffer not from poverty itself, but from the fact that their families are poor. Above all, when the movie begins, the family in Burning is already disorganized, but that of Parasite, who was generous although they were poor, is also disintegrated after the catastrophe. The devastating ending as the most important event in the movie is very surprising. Even though murder occurs in both films, the intensity of the shock is different. That is, murder of Parasite happened unexpectedly is much more shocking than that of Burning based on an incident of an original novel, This is especially true because Parasite shows the class perspective completely. Lee Chang-dong and Bong Joon-ho are representative film directors in Korea. They got attention whenever they made a movie, but their film world was quite far away. However, Burning and Parasite, which deal with the family dissolution based on class, show that the two directors are closely related. This is why we can understand the film world of the two directors more deeply.
