초등학교 수학 교과서 분석을 통한 함수적 사고의 지도 방안 탐색

국문 초록

함수적 사고는 대수적 사고의 발달과 이후 학습하게 될 함수 개념의 기반이 되므로 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 선행연구 고찰을 통하여 함수적 사고의 요소를 두 양 사이의 관계를 일반화하기, 표현하기, 정당화 및 추론하기로 구분하고, 2015 개정 수학과 교육과정에 따른 5학년 1학기 검정교과서의 ‘규칙과 대응’ 단원에 제시된 활동을 함수적 사고 요소의 측면에서 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 검정교과서의 활동은 두 양 사이의 관계를 일반화하고 표현하는 활동을 중심으로 구성되었으며, 정당화 및 추론은 낮은 비중으로 제시되었다. 또한 두 양의 공변과 대응 관계를 살펴보는 활동과 다양한 표현으로 두 양 사이의 관계를 나타내게 하는 활동을 제시하고 있어, 학생들의 공변적 사고와 대응 관계의 발달을 도울 수 있을 것이라 파악되었다. 한편, 대응 관계의 의미나 대응 관계의 서술 표현이검정교과서에 따라 차이가 있었으며 표현 사이의 연결이 일부 표현에 집중되었다. 이와 같은 결과를 토대로 본 연구는 초등학생들의 함수적 사고를 신장하기 위한 교과서 내용의 구성 및 지도 방향에 대한 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Functional thinking can foster elementary students’ algebraic thinking and serves as the foundation for the later learning of the concept of functions. This study aimed to analyze the unit of ‘patterns and correspondence’ in 10 different government-authorized mathematics curricular materials for fifth graders aligned to the 2015 revised national mathematics curriculum. The results showed that the activities in the textbooks primarily focused on generalizing and representing the relationship between two varying quantities, with limited emphasis on the activities for justifying and reasoning the relationships. Furthermore, the activities encouraged students to explore both changes of two quantities and correspondence rules and to represent the relationships with various representations, facilitating the development of students’ covariational thinking and correspondence relationships. On the other hand, the meaning of correspondence relationships and the descriptions of functional expressions were differently interpreted according to the textbooks. The implications for development of subsequent curricular materials were discussed to enhance functional thinking.
