영문 초록

This study aims to investigate several properties of color words between Korean and Japanese. Even though there are general common properties at a glance, some minute differences exist between two languages. First, the color word bases in Korean show comparatively simple characteristics, however those in Japanese show more complex characteristics. Then some different aspects are derived from the process of word formation; some derivational forms in Korean become to be uniformly adjectives, on the contrary they are remained as adjectives, nouns, and adjective nouns in Japanese. Secondly, it is general process in Korean that some syntactic constructions as like ‘검디검-’ change into the morphological unit at the phase of color words compounding. However there does not seems to be such a phenomenon in Japanese. Instead compound words consist of two bases through a typical word formation process.
