정사각형 칠교판으로 만들 수 없는 볼록다각형에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

목적 칠교판의 모든 조각을 사용하여 만들 수 있는 볼록다각형은 최대 20개라고 알려져 있지만, 이는 칠교판이 정사각형 모양을 분할하여 만든 퍼즐이라는 전제가 생략된 명제이다. 본 연구에서는 칠교판으로 만들 수 있다고 알려진 20개의 볼록다각형 중에서 실제로는 만들 수 없다고 여겨지는 한 볼록다각형에 대해 탐색한다. 그리고 칠교판으로 해당 볼록다각형을 정말 만들 수 없는지 증명한다. 방법 칠교판으로 해당 볼록다각형을 만들 수 없다는 가정하에 증명을 시도한다. 증명은 정사각형 모양에 칠교 조각을 배치하는 방법에 따라 두 가지 방법으로 진행한다. 결과 넓이가 가장 큰 칠교 조각을 우선 배치하는 방법과 정사각형의 한 각과 그 대각에 칠교 조각을 우선 배치하는 두 가지 방법으로 확인한 결과, 해당 볼록다각형은 칠교판으로 만들 수 없다는 사실을 증명하였다. 결론 본 연구는 칠교판의 모든 조각을 사용하여 만들 수 있는 볼록다각형 과제에서 모호하게 기술되어왔던 볼록다각형의 개수에 대한 수학적인 근거를 마련했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Objectives It is known that at most 20 convex polygons can be formed using all seven pieces of the puzzle, but this limit is imposed by the omission of the premise that the puzzle is a square divided into seven pieces. This study analyzes a convex polygon that is conjectured to be impossible to create using the puzzle and then uses the puzzle to prove that it cannot actually be constructed as the convex polygon. Methods The proof is based on the assumption that the given convex polygon cannot be formed using sev-en-piece puzzles. It proceeds in two different ways, depending on how the pieces are arranged within the square shape. Results We accomplished this in two ways: either by placing in the pieces having the largest area or by initially arranging the pieces on an angle and the diagonal of a square. Consequently, we have proved that the convex poly-gon cannot be formed by seven-piece puzzles. Conclusions The actual number of convex polygons that can be formed by seven-piece puzzles was 19, not 20. This study is significant because it provides a corollary for the number of convex polygons that can be constructed using all the pieces of the puzzle.
