국문 초록

이 논문에선 부보위험이 평균보유확산(Mean Preserving Spread)을 하는 경우, 우리의 직관과 일치하게 끔, 최적보험수요가 증가하는 데 필요한 효용함수의 제약조건을 유도했다. 이 연구의 결과는 다음과 같이 요약된다. 첫째, Rothschild·Stiglitz(1971)의 방법을 이용해, 부보위험의 위험성이 증가하는 경우 보험계약자의 효용함수가 `감소하는 절대위험회피성향` 및 `증가하는 상대위험회피성향`을 보이고 또한 상대위험회피도가 `1`보다 작으면, 보험계약자는 더 많은 보험을 구입하게 됨을 입증했다. 하지만 이 세가지 요건을 모두 만족시켜야만 하는 충분조건은 너무 제약적이고 실증분석의 결과와도 일치하지 않는다. 둘째, 이 연구에서는 리스크프리미엄을 이용하는 방법으로 첫 번째 방법에서 유도했던 충분조건의 제약성을 완화시켰다, 즉, 상대위험회피도에 관한 추가적인 가정없이, 현대 경제학의 표준가설인 `비증가 절대위험회피`는 부보위험의 위험성이 증가하는 경우 보험계약자로 하여금 더 많은 보험을 구입하게 하는 충분조건임을 확인했다. 아울러 기존의 보험 수요모형을 보다 일반화시켜, 보험계약자가 초기자산의 일부로 금융자산을 비롯한 위험자산을 보유하는 경우도 함께 고려했다.

영문 초록

This paper complements and generalizes the earlier theory of the demand for insurance by investigating the effect which mean preserving increase in risk has on the insured`s optimal insurance decision. The main results can be summarized as follows: First, following the method used in Rothschild·Stiglitz(1971), we show that an increase in riskiness of insurable risk will increase the optimal amount of insurance if the relative risk aversion is less than one and increasing and if the absolute risk aversion is decreasing. Second, we reinvestigate the effect of increase in risk on the insurance decision through its effect on the marginal risk premium. In essence, it is shown that an increase in risk will increase the optimal coverage if the absolute risk aversion is non-increasing. Of course, the non-increasing absolute risk aversion is much weaker condition than the relative risk aversion less than one. In addition, when initial wealth is random, a consistent results of comparative static analysis is presented provided that Arrow-Pratt measures of risk aversion are replaced by the KRW(1981) measures of risk aversion.
