국문 초록

현재까지 한국내외에서 출판된 <춘향전>의 영역서들을 살펴보았다. 각 역서들의 성격과 내용들을 개관하고 그 안에 실린 삽입시가를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 가장 많은 역자들이 다룬 ‘사랑가’, ‘십장가’, ‘이도령의 한시’를 그 대상으로 했다. ‘사랑가’의 운율을 역시에서는 어떻게 나타내고 있는지 알아보았고, ‘십장가’에서는 펀(pun)을 다룬 양상을 살펴보았다. 이도령이 변학도의 생일날 읊은 한시에서는 한시 안에서의 대조적인 사물들을 영역시에서는 어떻게 표현하고 있는지 알아보았다. 특히 역자들이 내용의 전달에 치중한 나머지 놓친 부분들을 고찰해보았다.마지막으로 역자들이 영역작업에서 무게를 두었던 부분이 한국문화의 전달임에 주목하고, 문학적인 표현의 한 가지인 시의 운율문제에 소홀할 수밖에 없었던 이유에 대해서 생각해 보았다. <춘향전>이 한국의 대표적인 고전소설의 하나이지만 영역본이 12종밖에 없고, 여기에 관심을 가지고 있는 이도 많지 않다. 본고에서 논의된 詩歌번역의 유의점들을 고려한 훌륭한 영역본이 나오기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

A Study on the English Versions of Chunhyang-jeonOh, Yoon SunIn this thesis, I researched Chunhyang-jeon’s English versions. Until now, there are 12 versions. I surveyed each versions’ characteristics and contents. In the chapter 3, I researched the inserted poems in English versions. The main objects were Sarang-ga, Sipjang-ga and the poem in Chinese by Yidoryeong which are translated by most translators. On Sarang-ga, I examined how to show the original poem’s rhyme in the English version. On Sipjang-ga, I researched the aspects of the pun in the English version. I also studied how to translate the antithesis of the poem in Chinese that Yidoryeong recited in Byeonhakdo’s Birthday party. Especially, the study was focused on the part that translators missed. Lastly, I noticed that translators had put greater importance on the spread of Korean culture than Korean literature in the chapter 4. That is why they neglected the rhyme that is one of the literary expressions. Chunhyang-jeon is one of the representative classic novels. However there are not many its English versions and not many researchers interested in it. I expect the superb English version that reflected the above points.
