영문 초록
The most important task facing language learners is acquiring a sufficiently large vocabulary. It is clear that the learner's task in acquiring sufficiently large mental lexicon is considerably greater than we thought. Although grammar remains great part of language acquisition, the lexical memory load is enormous for intermediate or advanced learners. According to Michael Lewis, the principle difference between intermediate and advanced learners is not complex grammar, but the greatly expanded mental lexicon available to advanced learners. The Korean advanced leaners want to learn more words or chunks, rather than spend their time for learning complex and unnecessary grammar - endings or particles of low frequency. Much of vocabulary consist of prefabricated chunks of different kind. The most important kind of chunks is collocation. Then teaching collocation should be a top priority in language course. For increasing word power, students should increase their word grammar.
