The purpose of this study is to explore some contrastive rhetorical features based on analyzing texts written by KFL-learners and to suggest a model of L2 writing from the contrastive rhetorical perspective further. Written texts of 120 advanced learners classified into 5 groups (Japanese, Chinese, Western, Russian, and South-East Asian) have been analysed and described in several respects of rhetorical features. This study consists of three parts as follows: First, the concepts of contrastive rhetoric have been examined by summarizing its historical development; Second, the categories for analyzing KFL-texts have been proposed and the analysis has been performed by the categories such as the positions of topic sentences, the methods of developing main ideas, supporting skills, and paragraphing etc.; Third, the contrastive rhetorical features of KFL-texts have been described after the analysis. The findings from this research tell us that some texts show different rhetorical features among cultures or languages. The results of the analysis also show that there are, on the other hand, some universal features KFL-texts have in common. This paper concludes with suggesting an eclectic model of L2 writing, which implies that there are certain inter-language writing steps for L2 learners.
