국문 초록

본 연구는 2009 개정 및 2015 개정 초등학교 1~2학년 수학 교과서의 어휘 적정성을 분석하였다. 수학 교과서의 본문 차시에 사용된 어휘를 대상으로 9등급 어휘 체계에 따라 어휘 난이도와 어휘 빈도를 분석하였다. 어휘 난이도 분석 결과, 2009 개정 수학 교과서에 비해 2015 개정 수학 교과서는 학년 수준보다 난이도가 높은 어휘 사용 비율이 줄어들었으며, 특히 1학년 1학기 수학 교과서에서 현저하게 줄어든 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 2015 개정 2학년 2학기 수학 교과서에서 학년 수준보다 난이도가 높은 어휘 사용 비율이 여전히 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 난이도가 높은 어휘는 대부분 삽화나 맥락이 함께 제시되어 있으나 이들 중 일부는 삽화나 맥락을 통해 그 의미를 유추하기 어려운 경우도 있었다. 어휘 빈도 분석 결과, 2009 개정 및 2015 개정 1~2학년 수학 교과서는 공통적으로 몇, 알아보다, 수, 나타내다 등의 어휘가 많이 사용되었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 수학 교과서 및 실제 수업에서 사용할 수 있는 적정한 어휘에 대한 정보를 제공하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This paper examined vocabulary used in elementary mathematics textbooks for the grade 1~2 aligned to the 2009 and 2015 Revised Curriculum. This study focused on the adequacy of vocabulary using 9-degree of semantic system. The results of this study showed that most vocabulary in the textbooks was adequate for the target grades. Compared with the 2009 revised mathematics textbooks, the use of difficult vocabulary was reduced in the 2015 revised mathematics textbooks. Especially, the use of difficult vocabulary in the 1st semester of the first grade was reduced the most. However, in the 2nd semester of the second grade mathematics textbooks, the use rate of the vocabulary is still higher. Most of these vocabularies were presented with illustrations, but in some vocabularies, it was difficult to understand their meaning through illustrations or contexts. The most frequent vocabularies in the main activities of the mathematics textbooks included ‘how many’, ‘investigate’, ‘number’, and ‘represent’. Based on these results, this study provides 1~2 grade textbook writers with implications on what to further consider in dealing with vocabulary in instructional materials.
