시각적 패턴과 함수표 활용에 따른 어린 학생들의 함수적 사고 수준 분석

국문 초록

초등학교에서의 함수적 사고의 중요성을 바탕으로 최근 국외 연구에서 어린 학생들도 공변량 사이의 관계를 탐구할 수 있다는 것이 강조되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 우리나라 어린 학생들의 함수적 사고 수준을 면밀히 분석하였는데, 특히 시각적 패턴과 함수표를 활용하면서 제시 순서를 달리하여 그에 따른 영향까지 탐색하였다. 연구 결과, 시각적 패턴을 먼저 제시하고 함수표를 나중에 제시한 그룹의 함수적 사고 수준은 전반적으로 유지되거나 향상된 반면에, 함수표를 먼저 제시하고 시각적 패턴을 나중에 제시한 그룹의 함수적 사고 수준은 다소 감소했음을 알 수 있었다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 어린 학생들을 대상으로 함수적 사고를 보다 효과적으로 지도할 수 있는 방안에 대한 시사점을 제공한다.

영문 초록

Given the significance of functional thinking at elementary school level, recent studies on functional thinking suggest that even young children are able to explore the relationship between co-varying quantities. In this study, we investigated young children’s functional thinking levels when they were provided with visual pattern corresponding to the given task followed by a function table or vice versa. The result drawn from this study showed that one group of students who were first introduced by visual pattern tended to maintain or improve their functional thinking levels when a function table was introduced later. However, the functional thinking levels by the other group of students who were first introduced by a function table were slightly decreased when visual pattern was introduced later. On the basis of these results, this study is expected to suggest implications for effective teaching methods to foster functional thinking for young children.
