영문 초록

Troubadour manuscripts with illuminations have been rarely studied from the musicological point of view, for the images in them do not make obvious reference to music. A closer examination of the Italian manuscripts, whose iconographic program is more coherent and homogeneous than that of the Occitan manuscripts, reveals some informative musical connections. This paper tries to demonstrate that the portraits of troubadours from the Italian manuscripts capture the moment of their musical activities. This iconographic study of the troubadour portraits can contribute to a better understanding of the musical culture of thirteenth-century Italy, of which we know very little.
