영문 초록

In the present state of Bach research there is no distinctive answer to the question ’Who is Bach?　. Hence there is no consistent pattern with which Bach can consistently be identified; in history he was regarded as ’master of fugue　, ’universalist　, ’main protestant church composer　, or ’founder of modern music　 etc. On the other side it could be useful to analyse Bachs own idea of identity. Constitutive for his idea of identity is the perception of his role in society which can be described as ’composing musician　 encompassing his Leipzig special roles as ’Kantor　, ’Musikdirektor　, ’Kapellmeister　, teacher and piano virtuoso. In the awareness of this social role Bach was able to develop his own thinking and feeling which made possible to establish his own sphere. But the two features notion of identity on the one hand and the change of the Bach image in history on the other are linked with each other. The base of the connection is provided by Bachs music with its unique construction of harmony and polyphony, its internal logic, and its synthesising character.
