영문 초록

This writing is to study the social and historical significance of chinese modern novels on the theme of Chosun Dynasty(Chaoxian) at the stage of concluding the discussion as the study on these novels advances. These novels are on the national ruins of Chaoxian, and are used to spread abroad the sense of enlightenment and to publicize the political awareness. The text is inquiring the social and historical significance of the novels into three; 1) to identify a nation, a people and a sovereignty, 2) to consider and explore how to produce a modern and enlightened people, 3) to manifest concerns of the nation and to inspire patriotism.The urgent problem in the modern age of China was to establish a modern nation-state. And the people was the essential element of organic unification which was necessary to the modern progress, and of building up such a nation as the embodiment of convincing social order. There had been no people but slaves till then in China. Facing up this historical reality, they emphasized that people was the precondition of a nation and tried to identify a nation, a people and a sovereignty.To consider and explore how to produce a modern and enlightened people seems to restructure the populace who lived in a confined and independent community and to make them reborn as a people of a nation. Regarding that producing a modern and enlightened people through civilization was the basis of overcoming national crises in modern China, 'new enlightened people' was stressed as a starting point for the modern progress no matter whether it was a tool for wealth and military power of a nation or a discovery of an individual resulted from enlightenment.Finally, voluntary consciousness regarding a nation as a natural community with a common destiny, in other words, manifesting concerns of the nation and inspiring patriotism are the key elements in supposing and realizing a modern nation-state.
