교과과정 연계방안으로서 WAC 프로그램 도입 사례 연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 대학 글쓰기 센터의 전반적인 기능을 이해하고 이를 토대로 전공 및 교양 영역을 포괄한 교과과정과 글쓰기 교육의 연계 방안을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 본 논문에서는 그 현실적 방안을 ‘Writing Across the Curriculum'(이하 WAC), 곧 '범교과적 글쓰기' 프로그램으로 전제한 가운데 미국 대학 글쓰기 센터를 중심으로 그 운영 사례를 살펴보았다. 그리고 이를 벤치마킹한 연세대학교 <글쓰기교실>의 시범 운영 사례를 해당 프로그램 학생들의 평가에 근거하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 향후 국내 대학 교육에서 WAC 프로그램이 성공적으로 실행되기 위해 선결되어야 할 과제들이 다음과 같이 도출되었다. 첫째, 계열별 글쓰기 강의 모형 및 강의안 기획에 관한 연구가 요청된다. 둘째, 학내 교수와 대학원생 가운데 특별히 위탁, 선발된 사람들을 대상으로 WAC 프로그램을 실행할 수 있는 인적 자원 양성을 위해 글쓰기 센터가 지속적으로 교육 지원할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 글쓰기 센터의 평가 참여 여부와 방법에 관한 규정이 필요하다. 마지막으로 WAC 프로그램의 운영 및 기획 주체인 글쓰기 센터와 전공 영역 교강사 간의 협력이 필수적이다. 무엇보다도 WAC 프로그램과 글쓰기 센터가 성공적으로 결합되는 데는 글쓰기 교육 시스템에 대한 대학본부의 강력한 지원 의지가 결정적일 수밖에 없다는 것이 본 논문의 최종적인 결론이다. 제도적 차원에서 WAC 프로그램이 공식화 되고, 그 실행 주체로서 글쓰기 센터의 위상이 확고하게 인증될 때, 안정적이고 체계적인 대학 글쓰기 교육 시스템이 마련될 수 있을 것이기 때문이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to study on the system for linking teaching to write with curriculum covering cultural studies and disciplines by understanding the overall role of college writing center. This paper premises ‘Writing Across the Curriculum(the following WAC)' as a method and explain the foremost tasks to practise WAC program successfully hereafter in Korea colleges. The summary of these as follows. First, it is necessary to study on the lecturing model and curriculum by departments. For this work the close cooperation is demanded from preparing a syllabus to assessment between faculty and writing center. Second, writing center must support to train human resources who are recommended and entrusted among the faculty or graduated students for WAC. This training program includes seminar and colloquium held at stated intervals. Third, it should be prescribed whether writing center can engage in evaluation on students. Especially an objective and strict basis for an assessment in disciplines must be stated clearly by the official council. To do good work WAC must cooperate indispensably with writing center which is the subject of its plan and adminstration. Such cooperation contains developing faculty's ability, linkage with tutors, and assessment on students and so on. When tutor is linked with class, both WAC program and writing center can expect the effective growth. Close alignment of writing center and tutors observations with classroom practices can provide ongoing assessment that forestalls the continuation of lore about students abilities. Above all, however, for the successful connection between them the adminstration's positive support is required. College writing discipline will be arranged stably if WAC is formulated, so writing center's status can be certified in the aspect of system.
