성향점수 추정법을 활용한 대학교육 만족도가 학업성취에 미치는 효과 분석

국문 초록

목적 이 연구는 학생들이 인지하는 대학교육에 대한 만족도가 학업성취에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 분석함으로써 학생성공을 지원하는 대학의 역할을 탐색하고 개선 방향을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 방법 이를 위해 학생성공의 준거로 학점을 산정하여 대학교육 만족도의 교육환경, 교육과정, 대학생활지원, 기타생활전반과의 관계를 분석하였다. 서울 소재 K대학교 학부생을 대상으로 조사하였으며 총 3,919부를 분석에 활용하였다. 분석은 성향점수매칭을 활용하여 회귀유사분석과 커널 매칭을 통해 만족도의 효과를 추정하였다. 결과 연구결과 첫째, 기타생활전반 만족도는 학점에 가장 유의한 영향을 미치는 변인으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 교육환경 만족도와 교육과정 만족도는 학점에 부분적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 변인으로 확인되었다. 교육환경 만족도는 커널 매칭을 통해 추정한 결과에서, 교육과정 만족도는 회귀분석 결과에서 유의하였다. 셋째, 대학생활지원 만족도는 학점에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 결론 학업적 성취를 증진하기 위해서는 대학의 네트워크와 공유의 장으로 기능과 역할, 장기적인 관점에서의 학업 및 경력개발 지원체체, 지속적이고 체계적인 점검과 모니터링이 필요하다.

영문 초록

Objectives In this study, we analyzed the role of university in supporting student success by estimating the effect of university education satisfaction on academic achievement measured by students’ GPA. Methods In particular, we used data of life satisfaction and GPA of 3,919 undergraduate students in an University in Seoul. To estimate the effects on GPA, we used the propensity score matching approach and documented following results. Results First, the effects of satisfaction with other lifestyles on students’ GPA was greater than those of other satisfaction measures, regardless of estimation methods. Second, satisfaction with university environment and curriculum appears to increase students’ GPA, but the results are sensitive to the choice of empirical methods. Third, satisfaction with university life support did not have a significant effect on GPA. Conclusions We discussed implications on the role of university for improving students’ academic achievement.
