The Russian language has several kinds of predicates, which can denote emotions. They are verbs, categories of state (kategorija sostojanija), past participles, adjective’ short forms, possessive construction, “emotion is power” structure, and “emotion is space” structure. The “emotion is space” structure consists of the preposition v and the emotion noun. In this structure the emotion is considered as a space, whereas the subject is considered as an object, located in that space. The emotion in this construction is believed to be deep, strong and non-transient so that the subject can stay in it or fall into it. There are three subgroups of emotion predicate structure “v+location” in Russian. The first one is the emotion locative structure “byt’ + v + prepositional case of emotion noun”. The second one is the emotion movement structure “prijti/ pogruzit’sja/ vpast’ + v + accusative case of emotion noun”. The third one is the causative emotion structure “privesti + v + accusative case of emotion noun”. These structures are distinct by the features like “visibility/invisibility”, “short-time/long-time duration”, “negativity”. The Russian native speakers use this emotion predicate structure “v + location” quite often. Using this structure, the Russians are willing to imply that their emotions are strong and deep, and they last for some time. On the other hand, this structure presupposes that the emotion is bigger than the men themselves and the former cannot be controlled and overcome by the latter. Therefore the Russian emotion predicate structure “v + location” reveals the Russians’ attitudes towards the emotion and the world.
