영문 초록

The middle class grew and their social and cultural status was enhanced in the 19th century and, as a result, a very close relationship was established between the middle class and the gentry class living in Seoul. Chusa Kim Jeong-hee was a representative figure who maintained a very close relationship with the middle class. Paying attention to Medical Officer Hong Hyeon-bo (1815~1896) among middle class people in the Chusa School, this study analyzed Haechosigo and Haechomungo Hong Hyeon‐bo’s garlands found recently. According to the results of examining Hong Hyeon-bo’s garlands, he was Chusa’s student, attending physician and clerk who dwelled at Chusa’s house when he was young. Consequently, Hong Hyeon-bo had more accurate knowledge of Chusa’s character and academic tendency than anyone else. After his association with Kim Jeong-hee, Hong Hyeon-bo worked as the family clerk of the Nam family from Euiryeong, attending on Nam Byeong‐cheol and writing on behalf of Nam Byeong-gil. Hong Hyeon-bo also played the role of a mediator between the gentry class living in Seoul and the middle class by making efforts to collect and publish middle class people’s literary achievements. For these reasons, Hong Hyeon-bo is considered “Number one among Chusa’s disciples.”
