대학 영어비교과프로그램에 나타난 영어학습에 대한 요구

국문 초록

현재 많은 대학이 교수와 학생간 1:1 영어 학습지도 비교과프로그램을 진행하고 있는데, 주로 영어클 리닉이라고 명명하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 A대학 영어클리닉에 참여한 학생 질문을 분석하여 학생들이 영어학습에 가장 도움을 받고자 하는 범주 및 세부내용을 살펴보았다. 전체학생의 결과 및 전공별, 학년별 차이를 비교하였다. 영어클리닉의 학습상담에서 학생들이 가장 크게 도움을 얻고자 하는 분야는 토익과 같은 공인영어시험에 대한 학습법, 토익청해, 토익독해와 같은 세부영역에 대한 학습지도, 문제풀 이 등이었다. 다음으로 영어기초실력을 다지기 위한 영어전반에 대한 학습법이 많았으며 기본적인 영문법 학습 및 세부적인 문법규칙에 대한 질문이 다음으로 많았다. 또한, 현재 수강중인 교과에 대한 효율적인 학습방법, 수업/교재 내용에 대한 구체적인 질문 등이 다음으로 빈번하였다. 전공별 분류를 통해 살펴본 결과에서는 전공의 특성에 따른 차이가 질문의 범주별 빈도 차이를 보였고, 학년별 분류에서 도 도움을 필요로 하는 범주 및 내용에 차이가 있었다. 본 연구 결과에서는 영어클리닉은 다수의 대학에서 주로 영작문 첨삭 위주로 진행되나, 해당 프로그램은 영어학습 전반에 대한 학습지도 프로그램으로서의 역할 수행이 필요함을 확인시켰다. 또한 전공별, 학년별 결과의 차이는 전공 및 학년에 따라 학생들이 도움을 요하는 내용이 상이할 수 있음을 보여주었다. 본 연구의 해당 결과를 토대로 학생들이 필요로 하는 내용의 학습지도를 다양한 경로를 통해 제공할 수 있는 방법을 덧붙였다.

영문 초록

This study examined the needs of various College students who are participating in an extracurricular program called “English Clinic.” In this program, students can ask questions about their English study and get help from English professors on an individual basis. The content of the questions was analyzed and compared according to both the majors and the years of the students. The most frequent questions asked by these students were those involving advice for preparing and planning for a public certification test, such as the TOEIC test. General study methods to improve their English skills and help with grammar learning were the second most frequently asked questions. Interestingly, there were quite a number of questions concerning the effectiveness of the study method regarding the course that they were currently taking. Their majors and years showed a difference in the frequency and content of each question category. The study concluded that English Clinic should provide help of a more comprehensive nature, assisting the students not only by giving them writing feedback--which is all too common with such English Clinic programs―but by helping them with their very study process as well. Based on the results, this study makes suggestions regarding the development of certain programs and methods in order to better help those students who are in need of specific skills.
