영문 초록

This study suggests a new direction for public facilities in public design and explores the ultimate role of lighting and the direction of application. The purpose of this study is for the research results to make an attempt of a new turning point in the development of public fa-cilities in South Korea and also build a foundation. The spatial coverage of the study includes Seoul, Sejong, and Gyeonggi-do Province, and the selection standard were 9 facilities registered as excellent facilities amongst the public facilities. For the temporal range, facilities that were registered as excellent facilities within the past 3 years were selected. The research method in-cludes installing lighting in the selected facilities and comparing the facilities during the daytime and nighttime, and the details and characteristics of the lighting installation were suggested. The results of the study are as follow. First, public design can be applied in the direction of a new design based on the lighting application plan. Second, lighting application heightens the safety of the public facilities. Third, lighting application can reduce the ecological characteristics of the public facilities. Fourth, lighting application in the fence could be effective amongst the targeted public facilities. Therefore, in public design, lighting application is more effectiveness when the facility has higher correlation as a safety facility and it is considered that the environmental sur-rounding must be taken into account in case lighting is applied.
