국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 이승우의 단편소설 <칼>을 활용한 소설 감상문 쓰기 교육의 효과를 탐구하기 위해 시도한 질적 연구이다. 방법 이를 위해 연구자는 S대학교의 교양선택 과목 <현대문학의 이해> 수업과 연계하여 연구를 진행하였으며, 2018-2학기, 2019-2학기, 2020-1학기, 2020-2학기의 수강생 총 134명을 연구 대상으로 삼았다. 연구 자료는 해당 학기 중에 수집하였으며, Creswell(2013)이 제시한 개방적 분석 방법에 따라 주제를 도출하고 대표 사례를 뽑아서 질적 성과를 검토하였다. 결과 연구 결과, 학생들이 지닌 상징적 ‘칼’은 1) 안정감을 더해주는 물질적 칼, 2) 존재와 상황을 긍정하는 성격적 칼, 3) 존재를 지탱해주는 인격적 칼, 4) 소통을 통제하는 비언어적 칼, 5) 내면을 보호하는 언어적 칼, 6) 한계를 초월하는 종교적 칼로 범주화할 수 있었다. 이승우의 단편소설 속의 ‘칼’은 보편성을 확보함은 물론 학습자들의 내면화 과정에서 다의적으로 의미화되고 있었다. 결론 이를 통해 소설 속의 상징적 ‘칼’에 대한 인식, 내면화를 통한 자기성찰과 자기 인식, ‘칼’이 내포한 다의성에 대한 인지 등에서 질적인 성과를 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 대학생의 사유 확장은 물론 창의력 증진의 가능성을 짚어볼 수 있었다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 또한 본고는 학습자의 자기성찰과 자기 인식은 물론 타인에 대한 이해 및 소통에 이르는 길을 내주었다는 점에서도 유의미하다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study is a qualitative study to explore the effect of education of writing a novel report utilizing Lee Seung-Woo’s short story, The Knife. Methods For this purpose, the researcher conducted a study in connection to the class, “Understanding of Contemporary Literature,” an elective liberal arts class of S. University, and 134 students who took the course in the second semester of 2018, the second semester of 2019, the first semester of 2020, and the second semester of 2020 were selected as research subjects. Research data were collected during the relevant semesters. Topics were drawn with the open analysis method proposed by Creswell(2013), and typical examples were selected to examine qualitative results. Results As a result of the study, the students’ symbolic ‘knives’ could be categorized into 1) physical knife that adds stability to them; 2) characteristic knife that accepts their existence and situation; 3) personal knife that preserves their existence; 4) nonverbal knife that controls their communication; 5) verbal knife that protects their inner side; and 6) religious knife that transcends their limit. ‘The knife’ in the novel secured universality and its meaning was diversified in the learners’ internalization process. Conclusions Through this, this study could find qualitative results in terms of their recognition of the symbolic ‘knife’ in the novel, their self-examination and self-awareness through internalization, and their recognition of the polysemy implied in ‘the knife.’ Especially, this study has significance in that it could examine the possibilities to expand college students’ thoughts and promote their creativity. And this research is meaningful in that it gave learners a way to self-reflection and self-awareness as well as understanding and communication with others.
