AUGMENTATIVE MEANINGS OF ADJECTIVES FOR SEVERAL OF THE MONGOLIAN HISTORICAL CHRONICLES OF THE 17th CENTURY

영문 초록

This study aims to examine augmentative meanings of adjectives, used in 5 original chronicles, entitled the “Fundamental sources of Mongolian historical original sources of the XVII century” and printed in 2011 by the School of Mongolian Language and Culture, the National University, the National Library of Mongolia and the Institute of History, the Mongolian Academy of Science. The Khadyn undsen khuraangui Altan tobchi (Short history of the Origins of the Khan’s Called the Golden button) 1604-1628, The Altan tobchi, or Golden Summary of the principles of statecraft as established by ancient Khans and written by Luvsandanzan 1634, The Erdeniin tobchi (Summary of the Treasure) 1662, The Shar Tuuj (Yellow Story) 1651- 1662, and The Asragch nertiin tuuh 1677. The inventory and selective examination of “pre-positional particles + adjective” model from modern Mongolian written and spoken language, located more than 60 augmentative words of adjectives, which have roots and that determine its meaning. From the above-mentioned historical chronicles a relatively high frequency of words were found: ülemji- “much, many, considerable, greatly, extensively”, masi - “very, extremely, very much”, čaγlasi ügei - “infinite, timeless”, eng - “extremely, really, most”, asar - asuru “very, very much, greatly, extremely”, cing - “firmly, truthfully, sincerely”, aγuu - “great, enormous, immense, vast”, čal - “white-haired”, naγar - “large, heavy, over”, üčüken - “not many, not much”.
