Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the effects of patient-centered intervention (PCI) and therapist-centered intervention (TCI) on concentration, upper limb function, and activities of daily living (ADL) in stroke patients.
Method: Twenty stroke patients were selected and randomly assigned to PCI and TCI training groups. Subjects in each group were trained for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week, for 6 weeks. FMA and JTHFT were used for upper extremity function test, and concentration test and K-MBI were used for concentration and activities of daily living (ADL).
Results: The PCI group improved concentration, upper extremity function, and ADL (p<.05). The PCI group showed significant improvement in concentration, upper extremity function, and daily activity ability compared to the TCI group (p<.05).
Conclusions: Although task-oriented training differs according to the type of task, patient-centered interventions that consider the patient s interests, frequent activities, and tasks required by the patient showed higher improvement in concentration, upper extremity function, and ADL.
