지체·중복·건강장애 유아에 대한학급내 일반 또래의 인식 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 미국 공립 통합유치원에 재학 중인 일반유아들이 같은 학급에 소속되어 있는 지체, 중복 및 건강장애를 지닌 또래를 어떻게 이해하고 수용하고 있는지를 조사했다. 연구결과 대부분의 유아들이 같은 학급에 소속되어 있는 중복장애 또래들의 장애특성(예: 보행의 어려움, 휠체어 사용)에 대해 인지하고 있었고, 다소 부정확한 이해(예: 사고로 다리를 다친 것으로 이해)를 보이기도 했지만, 대부분은 경우 중복장애를 지닌 또래들이 보이는 제한점(예: 걸을 수 있지만 뛰기는 어려움)에 대해 바르게 이해하고 있었으며, 소수의 아동의 경우 장애로 인해 나타나는 특정 행동(예: 뇌전증으로 인한 경련반응)에 대해서도 정확하게 보고하고 있었다. 이러한 결과는 유아들이 어린 나이이지만 일반학급에서 중복장애 아동들과의 상호작용과 관찰을 통해 장애 또래들의 특성에 대해 인지하고 있고, 어떤 기능적인 어려움이 있는지도 분별하고 있음을 보여주고 있다. 또한 일반유아들에게 사회측정법(sociometric peer ratings)을 실시한 결과 본 연구에 포함된 두 명의 중복장애아동들이 평균이상의 점수를 받았으며 이러한 연구결과는 지체, 중복 및 건강장애를 지닌 아동들이 다른 장애(예: 자폐, 발달장애)아동들보다 또래에게 더 많이 수용되고 있음을 보여주고 있다.

영문 초록

This study examined what typically developing preschoolers think about their peers with physical, health, and multiple disabilities in two inclusive public preschool classrooms in the United States. To assess children’s identification of disabilities in their peers, each participating child was individually interviewed. Children’s preference to play with peers with multiple disabilities were investigated using Sociometric Peer Ratings. Results showed that the majority of children were aware of disabilities or difficulties that their peers with multiple disabilities had. Mean sociometric scores that the target children with multiple disabilities received from his or her classmates were above the mean of their class sociometric scores. Suggestions for future research and implications for practices are discussed.
