Purpose - Department stores and discount stores grew up owing to development of distribution industry, and conventional market that had large share of distribution industry for a long time have stagnated under influence of convenience facilities. The purpose of the study was to investigate effects of convenience facilities upon sales of department stores and discount stores. Conventional markets were found to do dull business because of convenience facilities of department stores and/or discount stores. Consumers preferred department stores and/or discount stores with parking lots and easy shopping functions when consumers made change of life styles and made use of cars. The study investigated effects of number of cars at parking lots and preference factors upon discount store preference factors. Research design, data, methodology - The study investigated daily sales of big discount stores in the nation as well as number of cars at parking lot last three years. And, the study verified not only effects upon sales of discount stores but also effects of cars in the parking lot upon sales. Number of cars at parking lot were based on that of consumers who visited discount store for purpose of shopping, and the sales was based on POS sales. Economic index, day of week and festive holidays had influence upon sales. Results - The study investigated correlation of the variables having relations with convenience facilities (number of cars at the parking lot) as well as day of week to verify effects of convenience facilities (number of cars in the parking lot) and day of week upon monthly sales of super center (discount stores). Hypothesis 1 of "Super center (discount store)'s convenience facilities (parking lot) has positive influence" was significant (0.001). Hypothesis 2 of "Number of holidays a month has positive influence upon sales (monthly sales)" was significant (0.1).
