초등학교 1학년의 수학 발달 분석

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 초등학교 1학년 학생들의 수학 발달 궤적을 분석하여 Matthew 효과를 검증하고자 하는 목적을 갖고 있었다. 연구대상자는 A 광역시 도심지에 위치한 B 초등학교 112명의 1학년 학생이었고, 이들은 1, 2학기 동안 총 6회기의 수학 CBM (Curriculum-Based Measurement) 검사에 참여하였다. 종단자료 분석 방법인 LMER(Linear Mixed Effects Regression)의 결과에 따르면 전반적으로 수학 교과에서 Matthew 효과가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 특별히 상위집단과 하위집단으로 구분하여 수학 성취를 분석한 연구결과에 따르면 초깃값에서 높았던 상위집단의 학생들은 하위집단의 학생들 보다 높은 기울기를 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 두 집단 간의 학업 격차는 측정 회기가 증가할수록 지속해서 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 하위집단의 학생들은 학기 초에 벌어진 학업 격차를 끝내 좁히지 못하고 2학기를 마무리하였다.

영문 초록

The main purpose of this study was to test the presence of the Matthew effect for first graders by investigating the developmental math trajectories. Participants included 112 students in first grade and were recruited from one school in A city. CBM Math tests were administered 3 times for semester. The results from LMER supported the presence of the Matthew effect. In particular, the outcomes for high and low group showed that the slope for high group was higher than that for low group. Achievement gap between the two groups of students gradually widened over time, leading to the Matthew effect. As a result, low performing students group did not catch up with their peers.
