국문 초록

이 연구은 역사 그림책에서 이미지 해석에 초점을 맞춘 교육 방안을 제안하고자 한다. 역사 그림책은 역사 소설, 역사 동화와 함께 역사적 사건을 배경으로 서사적 진실을 밝혀내고자 하는 장르이다. 그러나 역사 소설이나 역사 동화와 달리 이미지의 미적 사용을 통해 주제 의식을 강화한다. 역사 그림책은 명시적인 글과 달리 이미지를 통해 암시적인 의미를 전달하며, 독자의 능동적이고 적극적인 해석이 이루어질 수 있는 실마리를 제공한다. 이 연구는 권윤덕의 『나무 도장』을 예시로 삼아 역사 그림책에서 이미지가 서사적 주제 의식을 강화하는 양상을 분석하였다. 분석 결과 표면적으로는 제주 4⋅3 사건의 전개를 알리며 비극성을 전달하는 것으로 보이나, 이미지의 상징적 의미를 해석하며 이념적 갈등 아래에서는 인간성 상실의 국면이 나타날 수밖에 없다는 보편적 의미를 발견할 수 있었다. 이론적 배경과 양상의 탐구를 바탕으로 이 연구는 교육 원리를 세 가지로 제시하였다. 첫째, 글과 이미지의 표면적 이해를 통한 역사적 사건의 이해, 둘째, 가추법을 활용한 이미지의 상징적 의미 탐색, 셋째, 상호텍스트적 감상을 통한 역사적 이해의 확장으로 제안하였다. 각각의 교육 원리에 대해 Ⅲ장에서 분석한 『나무 도장』을 예시로 그 구체적인 양태를 설명하였다. 이 연구는 역사 그림책에 대한 구체적인 문학교육적 접근 방법을 탐색하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to propose an educational way focusing on image interpretation in historical picture books. History picture books are a genre that seeks to uncover narrative truths based on historical events along with historical novels and historical children’s narrative. However, unlike historical novels or historical children’s narrative, the theme consciousness is reinforced through the aesthetic use of images. Unlike the explicit narrative of the text, historical picture books use images implicitly and provide a clue for the reader s active interpretation. Using Kwon Yun-deok s 『Wood Seal』 as an example, this study analyzed the aspect of image reinforcement of narrative subject consciousness in historical picture books. As a result of the analysis, on the surface, it seems to convey the tragedy by notifying the unfolding of the Jeju 4⋅3 incident, but by interpreting the symbol of the image, it was possible to find a universal meaning that a phase of loss of humanity must appear under ideological conflict. Based on the investigation of the theoretical background and pattern, this study presented three principles of education. First, an understanding of historical events through the superficial understanding of texts and images, second, exploration of the symbolic meaning of images using a subtraction method, and third, expansion of historical understanding through intertextual appreciation. The specific aspects of each educational principle were explained using 『Wood Seal』 analyzed in Chapter III as an example. This study is meaningful in that it explores a specific literary education approach to historical picture books.
