Acquiring a sound knowledge of vocabulary can not only be a solid foundation for academic achievement, it can also be the most robust predictor of test performance on the supply-type test items that are typically employed to assess teaching candidates’ knowledge of terminology and specific facts. The principal purposes of this study are to generate the specialized vocabulary lists that are specific to the four components of the Secondary English Teacher Recruitment Exams (SETRE) and to develop a set of pedagogical suggestions by which they can be taught in classroom settings. Test items were extracted from the SETRE held between 2002 and 2021 and subsequently combined in a 130,687 running-word corpus. This corpus was further divided into four subcorpora, representing the four main components of the SETRE: English Education, General English, English Linguistics, and English Literature. With the aid of AntWordProfiler (Anthony, 2014), major differences in lexical profiles and coverage of the four subcorpora are brought to light. The specialized vocabulary lists for each of the four disciplines of the SETRE were generated: English Education (113 technical words), English Linguistics (149 technical words), English Literature (49 technical words), General English (116 technical words). In light of the findings, the pedagogical applications of the field-specific word lists are also demonstrated.
