In to-days’ changing global scenario, employment possibilities for students studying professional courses is becoming more challenging. The education imparted at degree level for tourism and hospitality is not completely oriented to the market needs and neither is it sufficiently skill based. Tourism & Hospitality is a composite of activities, services and industries that delivers a travel experience, namely transportation, accommodations, eating and drinking establishments, shops, entertainment, activity facilities and other hospitality services available for individuals or groups that are travelling away from home. This industry has opened doors for employment and will continue contributing to the Indian GDP and be an employment provider for millions of people. Total contribution by travel and tourism sector to India s GDP is expected to increase from Rs 15.24 trillion (US$ 234.03 billion) in 2017 to Rs 32.05 trillion (US$ 492.21 billion) in 2028. ... During January-September 2018, FEEs from tourism increased 10.20 per cent year-on-year to US$ 21.56 billion. Tourism & Hospitality industry has a great multiplier effect on other industries. This paper is focusing on finding the requisite skills that are needed for better employment for undergraduate students of the tourism & hospitality courses. To identify the various loop holes and bridge the gaps, that will attain a platform for students to have a satisfactory career. The synergy of skill development for an individual is very important not just for his/her career but for individual and professional growth.
