국문 초록

홈스쿨링은 학교 밖 평생교육 영역임에도 대상이 학령기 아이들이라 평생교육 연구에서 거의 다루어지지 않았다. 본 연구는 『우리집 아이들은 학교에 안가요』(2003), 『누리보듬 홈스쿨』(2019), 『홈스쿨대디』(2019), 『준규네 홈스쿨』(2019) 네 권의 책속에 등장하는 다섯 가정을 사례 연구방법으로 분석함으로써, 홈스쿨러들의 모습이 학교교육을 넘어 교육의 본질이 무엇이지를 규정하는 평생교육의 모습을 담고 있음을 보여주고 있다. 첫째, 홈스쿨러들은 사회가 규정하는 학습을 버리고 자신이 원하는 것을 스스로의 방법으로 찾아나갔다. 둘째, 홈스쿨러들은 교과서 안에 있는 지식이 아니라 학습을 일상생활에 적용하고, 다른 대상을 생각하는 역량들을 키워나갔다. 셋째, 홈스쿨링을 통해 아이들은 또래 집단을 넘어 다양한 연령층과 교제하며 배우고, 개인을 넘어 세계 시민으로 자라나고 있다. 넷째, 홈스쿨링을 통해 아이들은 학교나 사회에서 요구하는 학습이 아닌, 자신의 마음을 뛰게 하는 배움에 몰입할 수 있었다. 이후 평생교육을 실천하는 다양한 홈스쿨링의 질적 연구사례 연구가 필요하다.

영문 초록

Homeschooling is an out-of-school lifelong education area, but it was rarely covered in lifelong education research because the target was school-age children. The study analyzed five families in four books: My Children Don t Go to School(2003), Nuri Bodum Home School(2019), Home School Daddy(2019), and Junkyu s Home School(2019) as examples, showing that home schoolers have many aspects of lifelong education that define the nature of education beyond school education. First, home schoolers abandoned learning as defined by society and found what they wanted in their own way. Second, home schoolers have developed their ability to apply learning to everyday life and think about other subjects, not knowledge in textbooks. Third, through home schooling, children are growing up as citizens of the world beyond individuals, socializing and learning with different age groups beyond their peers. Fourth, through home schooling, children were able to immerse themselves in learning that made their minds beat, not the learning required by school or society. Since then, research on the quality of home schooling, which practices lifelong education, is needed.
