영문 초록

The purpose of this research paper is analyzing what are the differences between Korean and English edition of Tongnip sinmun and studying of purpose of public opinion formation and its character. Those two editions were issued for different subscribers. Korean edition was for intelligent and general people. On the other hand, English edition was for foreigners in Korea and oversea countries. Two different editions, which formed other ways of public opinion aimed at different subscribers. This research found out the fact that two editions of Tongnip sinmun were formed different public opinion according to Japan and Russia related articles and Tongnip sinmun well understood aggressiveness of imperialism. But the reason of hiding aggressiveness or beautification of imperialism was politic-socal purpose. Tongnip sinmun had an object of independent nation. It could have been attained through the independence of the Powers and modern reform. For these purposes, Tongnip sinmun needed to have its roots for their reform project in Korea and international society. They should have led ignorant people to modern reform while kept off Japan and Russia who had interrupted Korea’s sovereignty. So they tried to form the different public opinion to gain an advantage over Korea and overseas and concealed or glorified the aggressiveness of imperialism.
