제약산업의 접대비성 지출이 신용평가에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

국내 제약산업은 타 산업에 비하여 비정상적인 리베이트 관행과 과도한 접대비 지출로 인하여 사회적 비용을 가중시킨다는 비판을 받고 있다. 이에 대한 부정적 인식을 반영하여 본 연구는 전문신용평가기관이 제약산업의 접대비에 대하여 어떻게 인식하는지를 분석하였다. 신용평가에 대한 대리변수는 신용평점과 신용등급을 활용하였으며, 접대비성 지출은 손익계산서의 접대비와 복리후생비의 합계로 정의하였다. 2004년부터 2012년까지(2013년 t+1기 신용평가 지수에 포함) 거래소에 상장된 기업-연도 3,286개 표본 중 제약산업 표본 195개를 추출하여 타 산업표본과 대응하였다. 실증분석 결과, 제약기업의 신용평가 지수는 타 산업에 비하여 상대적으로 낮게 나타났으며, 제약기업의 접대비는 신용평가에 매우 강한 음(-)의 설명관계를 보임으로써, 제약기업에서의 접대비 지출 수준이 여타 산업보다 훨씬 부정적으로 신용평가에 반영된다고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구의 결과는 제약산업의 접대비가 시장의 인식에 부정적으로 반영될 수 있다는 점을 제시하여, 제약기업의 경영자에게 장기적인 기업가치 향상을 위한 신약개발, 시장개척 전략의 개발 등 효율적 자원활용의 필요성을 인식시키는데 공헌할 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

Medical industry is criticized for abnormal rebate practices and excessive entertainment expenditures, and it may be weigh heavily upon social costs. Considering this negative awareness, this study examines the influence of entertainment costs on credit evaluation. The proxies for credit evaluation are credit score and rank, and the expenditures of entertainment are defined as the sum of entertainment costs and employee benefits extracted from Income Statement. The test sample consists of 3,286 firms(medical firms 195 and the others of matching firms 3,091) selected from the KRX in the year 2004 ∼ 2012. The major finding of this study is too much expenditure of entertainment may cause the firms not to take a good credit degree in comparison with the other industrial firms. This result may contribute much to the development of new drug or material and seeking a new market to improve firms value in medical industry.
