이 글은 식민지 시기 비평 논쟁을 ‘지식과 문화로서 사회주의’라는 시각에서 재독하였다. 구체적으로 ‘내용-형식 논쟁’(1926), ‘아나키즘 논쟁’(1927), ‘대중화 논쟁’(1929)을 살펴보았다. 세 논쟁에 일괄되게 흐르는 맥락은 자본주의 법과 미디어 체제에 대한 논객들의 대응이다. 이 글에서는 그 대응을 크게 세 가지로 유형화했다. 첫째 자본주의와 대립하는 체제로 사회주의를 이해하는 방식으로, 박영희와 볼셰비키파가 여기에 해당한다. 둘째, 자본주의 법과 미디어 체제 속에서 사회주의의 이상향을 대중들에게 전파하려는 시각이다. 김기진이 대표적인 인물이다. 셋째, 두 번째와 마찬가지로 법과 미디어 체제를 의식하지만 그것을 부정하며 대중들과 만나려는 시도로서 임화의 경우에 해당한다. 임화는 첫 번째와 두 번째를 횡단하며 활동했던 인물이라고도 할 수 있다. 이렇게 볼 때 식민지 시기 비평 논쟁은 조직의 혁명론과 문화적 혁명론이 대립하며 이루어진 것으로 볼 수 있다. 두 가지 입장은 때로는 겹치고 또 엇갈리며 식민지 시기 사회주의 고유의 문화를 형성했다.

영문 초록

This article rereads the criticism debate in the colonial period from the perspective of ‘socialism as knowledge and culture’. Specifically, the author examined ‘Content-Format Debate’ (1926), ‘Anarchism Debate’ (1927), and ‘Commonization Debate’ (1929). The context that flows into the three debates is the responses of commentators to capitalist laws and media systems. In this article, the responses were largely categorized into three main types. First, this is the way Park Young-Hee and the Bolshevik faction understand socialism as a system that conflicts with capitalism. Second, the view is to spread the ideal of socialism to the masses in capitalist law and media system. Kim Ki-Jin is a representative figure. Third, like the second, it is the case of Lim Hwa as an attempt to meet the public, being conscious of the law and the media system but denying it. Im Hwa was also a figure who crossed the first and second lines. In this regard, the criticism debate can be seen as a conflict between the organizational and cultural revolution. The two positions sometimes overlap and diverge, forming a unique culture of socialism during the colonial period.
