가정형 위(Wee)센터의 교육적 특징에 대한 질적 사례 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 교육현장 내 가정형 위(Wee)센터의 교육적 특징을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 분석의 틀로서 파커 파머의 진리공동체를 삼아, 진리공동체 관점을 통한 교육적 관계 회복이 학습에서 소외된 학생들을 위한 탈출구가 될 수 있다고 보았다. 따라서 진리공동체의 특징을 고찰하고 가정형 위(Wee)센터의 실제 사례를 살펴봄으로써 가정형 위(Wee)센터가 보이는 교육적 의미와 그 특징을 중심으로 진리공동체를 근간으로 한 바람직한 교육현장의 개선방향을 탐색해보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 A 가정형 위(Wee)센터에 재직 중인 5명의 교사와 입소 중인 청소년 4명을 연구참여자로 선정하였고, 심층면담을 활용하여 질적 사례연구를 진행하였다. 연구 결과, A 가정형 위(Wee)센터에서는 다음과 같은 진리공동체의 특징이 나타났다. 첫째, 교사의 개방성을 바탕으로 한 상호연결성을 지니고 있었다. 둘째, 학생의 참여를 이끄는 환대와 만남으로부터 생겨난 열린 공간을 발견할 수 있었다. 셋째, 교사와 학생 모두의 성장과 관계 변화가 나타났다. 이는 경쟁 중심의 학교에서 교육적 공간으로의 재탄생을 위한 진리공동체의 확산이 필요하며, 학교의 역할이 인식론적 차원을 넘어 존재론적 방향으로 변화해야 함을 시사하였다. 이후 논의에서는 본 연구가 가진 제한점과 추후 연구의 방향에 대해 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This research examined the educational characteristics of the Wee Center in the educational field. Using Parker Palmer s the Community of Truth as a framework for analysis, we supposed that the restoration of educational relations based on Parker Palmer’s ‘the Community of truth’ could be an escape for students who were alienated from learning. To explore this premise in actual educational practice, we explored the characteristics of ‘the Community of Truth’ suggested by Palmer, and selected a ‘home-type Wee center’ as the case to be analyzed. In so doing, we aimed to reveal the actual status and limits of applying the community of truth in our educational site. Five teachers working at the Wee center and four students admitted to the center were involved as the research participants, and in-depth interview for qualitative case analysis were conducted. The main findings suggested that the home-type Wee center have several characteristics of the community of truth: First, the center showed a feature of ‘inter-connectivity’ based on teacher openness. Second, such hospitality and meeting created an open space in which students participated in and got involved. Third, we can find the growth of both teachers and students, and the changes in their relationships. This research suggested that the community of truth needed to spread further to transform the school as the ‘competitive space’ into a desirable ‘educational space’, and the cognition-orientedness into ‘existentialist direction’. The role of the school should change beyond the epistemological level into the ontological level.
