자녀의 초등학교 전이 전·후 어머니 경험 변화와 지원 요구

국문 초록

본 연구는 자녀의 초등학교 전이 전·후 어머니 경험의 변화를 조사하고 이를 바탕으로 자녀의 초등학교 전이 지원에 대한 어머니의 요구를 파악하는데 그 목적이 있다. 자녀가 초등학교 취학을 앞둔 어머니 6인을 대상으로 2018년 1월 6일부터 2018년 6월 23일까지 초등학교 전이 전과 후에 2회씩, 총 4회의 반구조화 심층면담을 실시하였다. 전사자료를 반복하여 읽으면서 유사점과 패턴을 찾아 부호화와 범주화하여 분석한 결과, 초등학교 전이 전과 후의 어머니 경험은, ‘아직 어려서’ vs. ‘아기 취급하는 걸로 보여질까봐’, ‘개인의 특성’ vs. ‘조직에 순응’, ‘본인이 알아서 하는 것’ vs. ‘내가 안일했나’로 나타났다. 어머니가 제안한 초등학교 전이 지원 방안에는, 초등학교 적응 기간의 연장, 유치원과 같은 친절한 분위기의 초등학교, 보육의 지속 등이 있었다. 자녀의 초등학교 전이 전과 후 어머니의 경험 변화에 대한 본 연구결과를 토대로 초등학교 전이 전과 후 급작스러운 변화보다는 완만한 변화를 경험하도록 유초연계의 체계화가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate mothers’ experiences before and after their child’s elementary school transition. This paper also aims to search any ways of facilitating the transition based on their experiences. Data was collected via in-depth interviews with six mothers, who planed their child’s transition to an elementary school. The interviews were conducted twice each before and after their child’s transition from January 6, 2018 to June 23, 2018. Similar patterns were coded and classified through repetitive reading of transcripts. As results, their contrastive experiences were coded as ‘still young’ vs. ‘treating their child not as a baby’, ‘focusing on their child’s characteristics’ vs. ‘adapting to school system’, and ‘doing on my child’s own’ vs. ‘did I take it too easy?’. The participants also suggested that the transition should be supported by extending the period of children’s adjustment for schooling and treating children with hospitality. This study implies that the changes that parents and their children confront the transition between kindergarten and elementary school need to proceed gradually.
