13-8 stainless steel is used in many industrial fields such as the oil, aviation and nuclear industries because of its high strength and superior toughness. However, this material is classified as the difficult-to-cut material due to its excellent mechanical properties. Laser assisted machining (LAM) is considered as an economical method to machine the difficult-to-cut material effectively. The LAM is a method which preheats the material with a laser and then is followed by a conventional machining. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the machining parameters for LAM of 13-8 stainless steel through the experiments. The feed rate, spindle speed and depth of cut were determined as machining parameters. The cutting force and surface roughness were analyzed by S/N ratio to analyze the effect of the machining parameters for LAM. The results of this study will be used to LAM of 13-8 stainless steel.
