Rolling bearings have been largely applied because rolling bearing has high-stiffness, load capacity, easy handling and standardized specification in the spindle system of machine tools. To increase the machine accuracy by improving the stiffness of rolling bearings, a preload was applied to bearings. The variable preload technology is a method that varies the preload for obtaining variable preloads according to the rotational speed of the spindle and operating conditions. In this study, an automatic variable preload device of modified shape was fabricated, compared with previous study. And spindle prototype of maximum speed 10,000 rpm was fabricated. An axial direction force of fabricated automatic variable preload device was measured by using loadcell. The experiments results confirmed that the device operates effectively.
