토의(discussion) 기반 수업에 대한 대학 내 인식 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 대학에서 집단사고의 과정으로 활용되고 있는 토의 기반 수업에 대한 인식과 전반적인 참여 현황 및 문제점에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2019년 10월 1일부터 10월 25일까지 4주에 걸쳐 수도권 지역 학습자 437명을 대상으로 설문조사를 기반으로 하고, 추가로 교수자 2인의 인터뷰를 보충자료로 분석하였다. 양적-질적 자료를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 토의 기반 수업은 주로 교양과목에서 활용되고 있었으며, 전공수업에서는 학습자의 토의 수업에 대한 긍정적인 인식에 비해 적용이 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 학습자들의 토의 기반 수업 효과에 대한 긍정적 인식은 전공계열에 따라 다르게 나타났으며, 특히 자연공학계열의 경우 낮게 나타났다. 셋째, 교수자는 토의 기반 수업에 대한 필요성을 인식하고는 있었으나, 학습자 반응과 수업 내용에 따른 적용의 어려움과 부담감을 토로하였다. 인재 양성 기관으로서 대학은 학습자와 교수자의 요구에 맞는 토의 기반 수업에 대한 비전 및 교수방법에 대한 구체적이고 전략적인 접근의 방향성을 제공할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status and problems of learner-instructor awareness and participation in discussion based class, which are used as the process of group thinking at a university. For this purpose, a survey of 437 learners from the metropolitan area and the supplemental interview data of two instructors were analyzed. The analysis results for quantitative and qualitative data are as follows. First, discussion based class was mainly used in liberal arts subjects, and major classes were found to be inadequate compared to positive perceptions of learners discussion class. Second, learners positive perception of discussion based teaching effects differed according to their majors, especially low in the case of natural engineering field. Third, the instructor recognized the necessity for discussion based instruction, but expressed the difficulties and burdens of application according to the learner s response and the contents of the class. The university, a human resources training institution, need to provide specific and strategic approaches to vision and teaching methods for discussion based instruction that meet the needs of learner and instructor. The results of this study aimed to provide implications for the activation of effective discussion based class in line with the times.
