The mediating effect of sense of calling to teaching on the relationship between interpersonal problems and leadership among secondary preservice teachers

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 중등예비교사들의 대인관계 문제와 리더십과의 관계에서 교직소명감의 매개효과를 조사하는 것이다. 이를 위한 구체적인 연구 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중등예비교사들의 대인관계 문제, 교직소명감, 리더십간의 상관관계를 조사하였다. 둘째, 대인관계 문제가 리더십에 영향을 미치는 변인인지 조사하였고 이 과정에서 교직소명감의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 본 연구를 위하여 서울시에 소재한 두 개의 대학교에서 중등예비교사 224명이 참가하였다. 조사한 변인들의 상관관계를 Pearson 상관계수로 분석하였으며 대인관계 문제와 리더십의 관계에서 교직소명감의 매개효과를 위계적 회귀분석과 Sobel test로 검증하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중등예비교사들의 대인관계 문제와 리더십, 대인관계 문제와 교직소명감의 상관관계는 통계적으로 유의미한 부적 상관관계를 나타내었다. 또한 중등예비교사들의 교직소명감과 리더십의 상관관계는 통계적으로 유의미한 정적 상관관계를 나타내었다. 둘째, 중등예비교사들의 대인관계 문제는 리더십에 영향을 미치는 유의미한 설명변인으로 나타났으며, 이 과정에서 교직소명감은 부분매개효과를 하는 것으로 검증되었다. 따라서 중등예비교사들의 리더십을 위해 대인관계 능력을 개발해 주고 대인관계 문제를 줄일 수 있는 방안과 교직소명감을 향상시킬 수 있는 교사교육과정을 모색할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of secondary preservice teachers interpersonal problems on leadership and to verify the mediating effect of sense of calling to teaching in this process. For this purpose, the relationships among the interpersonal problems, sense of calling to teaching, and leadership of preservice teachers were analyzed by Pearson s correlation coefficient, and the mediating effect of sense of calling to teaching was examined by multiple regression analysis and Sobel test. The study sample comprised 224 secondary preservice teachers attending two universities in Seoul, South Korea. The results of the study were as follows. First, statistically significant negative correlations were found between interpersonal problems and leadership, and between interpersonal problems and sense of calling to teaching. In addition, sense of calling and leadership showed a statistically significant positive correlation. Second, the interpersonal problems of the preservice teachers appeared to be a significant explanatory variable affecting leadership. In this process, sense of calling to teaching was proved to have a partial mediating effect. Therefore, the importance of sense of calling as a mediating factor in the relationship between interpersonal problems and leadership, necessitates considering both interpersonal relations and calling to teaching when developing the curriculum of teacher education in order to enhance the leadership of preservice teachers.
